This is a sequel to Witch Ember, Lawson's first novel from a few years ago. And it is a worthy complement to the original. For people who enjoy fantasy novels, this is a good one. Lawson does a good job of giving humanity to his protagonist, something that is rarely expressed effectively in fantasy or scifi novels. Never at a loss for an adjective, he also does a great job of establishing the setting for a scene. If you are a fan of J.R.R. Tolkien's epic Lord of the Rings series, then this is right up your alley.
